Role of the department

The department oversees the state's planning system to create liveable and sustainable communities that enhance the lives of all South Australians. We work with the community and practitioners to plan our state’s towns and cities, as well as transport networks, recreation spaces and supporting infrastructure. With a focus on the future of South Australia, we want to unlock economic and growth potential to ensure our state is the best place to live, work and play.

Role of The Minister

The Minister for Planning is responsible for all matters relevant to the use, development and management of land and buildings in South Australia. This includes our planning system, design and construction rules and a range of initiatives to facilitate the development of infrastructure and environments that will benefit the community.
