The department's Planning Reform team has made the most of an opportunity to learn from the experiences of interstate counterparts during a recent visit from Stephen Smith from Policy and Statutory Planning, Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning in Queensland.
Stephen and his colleague Mary-Ellen Catchpole, Change Manager, Planning Reform (via Skype) shared the delivery methodology, key learnings and successes of their planning reform journey to date during a workshop on 16 March. Mary-Ellen spoke at length on the importance of collaborating with local government, building capability through education and engaging early.
The exchange of information was insightful and motivating and the connections made with the Queensland team will be invaluable as we embark on our transition to the new SA planning system. Following the workshop, the team hosted Stephen on a tour showcasing the Bowden and Prospect developments.
