Quality public space is essential to healthy, liveable communities. The State Government invests in open space and improvements to the public realm through Planning and Development Fund grant programs.
Providing quality public open spaces which can provide a range of activities and support safe, healthy connected communities is becoming increasingly important. The Planning and Development Fund (which operates under the Development Act 1993) allows the Government to adopt a State-wide approach to strategically implement open space and public realm projects in an objective manner through two grant programs for local government.
In addition to the local government grant programs, the Planning and Development Fund provides investment in other strategic public space initiatives including an investment of $20 million over four years to demonstrate a new vision for the Adelaide Park Lands.
Projects funded through the Planning and Development Fund support the Government’s priorities including the implementation of the 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide and the Regional Planning Strategies for South Australia.
The 2017-18 Open Space and Places for People grant funding round has now closed. Thank you to the 36 councils seeking over $30.6 million in grant funding. We have commenced the assessment process and will advise all councils in writing the outcome of their application.
