Review of the Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010

The Department of Industry and Science, in conjunction with the Attorney-General’s Department, is calling for submissions on the effectiveness of the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 (Premises Standards) in providing access to buildings for people with a disability.

The Premises Standards, which came into effect on 1 May 2011, aim to provide people with a disability with dignified and equitable access to buildings, and provide certainty to industry that they are complying with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).

The full review can be viewed on the Department of Industry and Science's website. Submissions are required by Monday 15 June 2015.

DPTI survey on the review

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has developed a survey to assist with the preparation of a submission to the review.

The review addresses a number of issues including:

a)   requirements for building features in the Premises Standards,

b)   exemptions, concessions and exceptions,

c)   interaction of the Premises Standard with State and Territory regulations,

d)   inconsistencies in the interpretation and application of the Premises Standards.


The survey focuses primarily on b), c) and d). If you would like to contribute please complete the survey by Friday 22 May 2015. If you know someone who would like to contribute please forward them this email.
