Discussion Paper: Local Heritage - An exploration of the opportunities

As part of the current planning reform project, a Local Heritage Discussion Paper has been prepared to explore the opportunities for reform that builds on the recommendations made by the South Australia’s Expert Panel on Planning Reform in 2014.

The discussion paper has been prepared to encourage high-level ideas and feedback from experts and practitioners involved in local heritage practice and to inform the preparation of a future local heritage bill.

Consultation: 30 Year plan for greater Adelaide

2016 Update to the 30 year plan for greater Adelaide

On 25 August 2016, the Minister for Planning released the draft Update to the 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide for a 2 month consultation period.

The update is a result of a collaborative effort involving local government, the development industry and state government agencies to produce a refreshed document focusing on 6 key measurable targets.

ABCB Consultation

Survey: Common Class 2 and 3 Building Fire Safety Performance Solutions

The ABCB is currently undertaking a holistic review of the NCC’s fire safety provisions for Class 2 and 3 buildings. The review will consider the current Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions for these buildings and seek opportunities to improve the provisions whilst maintaining appropriate levels of life safety.

This survey is directed at industry practitioners who commonly use performance based design for fire safety solutions, specifically building surveyors and fire engineers.

The survey will take approximately 10 - 15 minutes to complete and is available until 20 September 2016.

Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS): Non-compliant use of External Cladding Products on Buildings
The ABCB have released a Consultation RIS examining the non-compliant use of external cladding products on high rise (Type A and B) buildings, where the installed products do not avoid the spread of fire.

Submissions on the RIS should be emailed to the ABCB at by 30 September 2016.

ABCB Advisory Note - Fire performance of external walls and cladding

At its meeting on 19 February 2016, the Building Minister's Forum agreed to the development and implementation of a range of measures to help address risks associated with high risk cladding products on high rise buildings. In response, the ABCB has published an Advisory Note to provide guidance on the application of the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions relating to the fire peformance of external walls (including cladding products of external walls) for buildings of Type A and B construction.

Senior Compliance Auditor

The position of Senior Compliance Auditor has been advertised via the Seek network. 

The position is responsible for auditing the statutory assessment functions undertaken by private certifiers and Councils to ensure compliance with the relevant aspects of the Development Act 1993 and Development Regulations 2008.
