In response to the Grenfell Tower fire in London, Minister Rau issued a Media Release detailing the immediate audit of buildings within the Adelaide CBD in conjunction with Adelaide City Council, with a particular focus on identifying the presence of aluminium composite panel cladding.
Councils, private certifiers and key stakeholders will be contacted shortly regarding the audit process.
Building Minister's Forum (BMF)
The BMF discussed this matter at length at their meeting on 30 June 2017 and agreed to commission an expert to report back as quickly as possible about the broader compliance and enforcement issues within the building and construction system. The BMF issued a Communique detailing a number of other initiatives currently underway to address non-conforming products.
Commonwealth website
On 1 July 2017, the Commonwealth launched their non-conforming building products webpage, hosted on the ABCB website. The national webpage, which provides relevant contacts in each of the jurisdictions, was developed in response to recommendations made by the Senior Officers Group established under the BMF.
Senate inquiry
In June 2015, the Senate referred an inquiry into non-conforming building products to the Senate Economics References Committee for inquiry and report. An interim report entitled Safety - 'not a matter of good luck' was published in May 2016.
